Project Manager

NEXTChapter Transitions | Chattanooga, Tennessee

About Us

NEXTChapter Transitions is a specialized downsizing, move management, and professional organizing company serving the Chattanooga, Tennessee metro area and surrounding North Georgia communities. Our team offers a range of services: Senior Move Management and Downsizing, Professional Organizing, Estate Clearing for families navigating loss, and Move Management for clients of all ages and circumstances. Whatever brings a client to us, the work is personal — and we treat it that way. Everything we do is guided by our code of ethics and a genuine commitment to the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of every person we serve.  We are committed to providing world-class client service!

Our team culture is built on collaboration and mutual respect at every level. We believe the best outcomes for our clients come from a team that listens to one another, shares observations freely, and makes decisions together. The Project Manager is the accountable leader of each engagement — but leadership here means facilitating the best work of the whole team, not directing from above.

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and collaborative Project Manager to lead client engagements across our full range of services — in close partnership with the CEO/Owner. Initial consultations, project planning, and key decisions are carried out jointly with the CEO/Owner; once a project is underway, the Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients and their families, with the CEO/Owner engaged in varying degrees as circumstances require.

Depending on the engagement, you may be coordinating a senior’s move to senior living, helping a family work through a home after the death of a loved one, guiding a client through a home organizing project, or managing a relocation for someone at any stage of life. Each of these calls for the same core strengths: organization, empathy, follow-through, and the ability to hold space for people in the middle of significant life moments.

In the field, you will work directly alongside team leads and team members, coordinate with third-party vendors when needed, and ensure every project is executed with care and precision. This role carries real accountability for each project’s outcome. It also requires a genuine willingness to seek out and act on the perspectives of every team member — including those working below you in the project hierarchy. The people closest to the work often see things first, and a great Project Manager knows that.

Key Responsibilities

Partnership with the CEO/Owner

·      Conduct initial client consultations jointly with the CEO/Owner; collaborate on project scope, approach, and expectations before work begins.

·      Develop customized transition plans, timelines, and floor plans in close coordination with the CEO/Owner.

·      Serve as the primary client and family contact once a project is underway, while keeping the CEO/Owner appropriately informed and engaged throughout.

·      Bring significant decisions, scope changes, issues, or concerns to the CEO/Owner promptly; maintain open, ongoing communication.

Client Engagement and Emotional Support

·      Build trust with clients and their families from the first meeting through post-move follow-up.

·      Navigate emotionally complex situations — grief, family conflict, cognitive decline, reluctance to let go — with patience, empathy, and deep respect for each client’s right to make their own decisions.

·      Ensure every client feels genuinely heard, supported, and at home in their new space.

Project Coordination and Execution

·      Oversee all project logistics across service types: sorting and downsizing, packing, inventory, vendor scheduling, move day execution, new-home setup, home organizing, and estate clearing.

·      Adapt your approach to the nature of each engagement — a senior transitioning to senior living, a family clearing a home after a loss, a client of any age reorganizing their space or managing a move.

·      Coordinate with third-party partners — moving companies, estate sale companies, auction houses, donation centers, senior living facility staff, and others — on behalf of clients as needed.

·      Manage project documentation, estimates, and budgets in accordance with company guidelines and utilizing integrated technology tools.

Team Collaboration and Leadership

·      Work side-by-side with team leads and team members in the field; actively solicit their observations and adapt plans as needed based on what the team sees on the ground.

·      Assign and schedule team members in coordination with CEO/Owner; ensure everyone is clear on the project plan and their role within it.

·      Mentor and support team members’ growth; model the collaborative, client-centered standards our company holds.

What You Bring

Experience as a project manager at a senior move management company is not required — this is a relatively new and specialized field, and we are more interested in who you are than in a specific job title you’ve held. What matters most is the right combination of character, transferable skills, and genuine passion for this kind of work.

Non-Negotiable Qualities

·      Ownership and accountability — you take full responsibility for your work and your commitments, and you follow through every time.

·      Reliability and follow-through — the people counting on you — clients, family members, teammates — can set their watch by you.

·      Integrity and trustworthiness — you are honest in all things, with clients, with ownership, and with your team; you do not cut corners and always do what is in our clients’ best interests.

·      Strong work ethic and internal drive — you are self-motivated; you do not need to be pushed to do excellent work.  You make sure the work is done.

·      Critical thinking and problem-solving — you can assess a situation quickly, weigh options, and make sound decisions — often in the middle of a moving day.

·      Calm under pressure — when things go sideways (and sometimes they will), you are the steadying presence for your team and your clients.

·      Genuine empathy and patience — you understand the emotional weight of what our clients are going through, and you bring warmth and compassion to every interaction.

·      Positive attitude and shared passion — you enjoy this work; your energy is an asset to the client experience and to the team around you.

·      Collaborative spirit — you lead without dominating; you seek input, value other perspectives, and make the team better.

·      Outstanding communication — written and verbal — you communicate with clarity, professionalism, and polish in every context: emails, estimates, client conversations, and team correspondence; proper grammar and a polished, composed presence are non-negotiable.

·      Comfort and professionalism with higher-net-worth clients — a meaningful portion of our clientele are higher-net-worth individuals and families with correspondingly high expectations; you are poised, discreet, and at ease in those environments, while still being genuine and approachable.

Relevant Background (one or more helpful, none strictly required)

·      Experience in professional organizing, home staging, interior design, or space planning.

·      Experience working with older adults — in any capacity: care, advocacy, real estate, social services, family caregiving, or similar.

·      Background in real estate, estate sales, or residential transitions.

·      Strong organizational or project coordination experience in any field.

Logistics

·      Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible hours within the Chattanooga metro area and surrounding communities.

·      Ability to safely lift and carry up to 30+ lbs. and remain physically active throughout the workday.

·      Comfortable getting your hands dirty — our work is meaningful and rewarding, and it is also physical and unglamorous at times; sorting through a lifetime of belongings means attics, basements, garages, and sheds as often as it means living rooms, china cabinets, and beautiful spaces, and we need someone who shows up with the same energy and professionalism regardless.

·      Must pass a comprehensive background check and provide references

Education

·      · High School Diploma Required

·      · College Degree Preferred

Our Culture, in Plain Terms

We are a small team. Everyone’s voice matters — including yours, and the voices of the team members you’ll be leading. We do not operate as a hierarchy where authority flows in one direction. A Project Manager at NEXTChapter leads by facilitating, listening, and integrating — and is ultimately accountable for the outcome. If you are energized by that balance and by working in genuine partnership with ownership, we want to hear from you.

Compensation and Schedule

·      Pay: Hourly, commensurate with experience, with room for growth.

·      Hours: This is a flexible, variable-hour position. Our target is 20–30+ hours per week, but our business is cyclical in nature — some weeks will be full-time level or more, and others will be lighter. We are transparent about this from the start and look for candidates who can work well within that rhythm.

·      Schedule: Most work takes place during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 9–5), with occasional later hours on move-in days or projects with hard deadlines.  We do NOT work on weekends.  Scheduling is coordinated with the overall team, and we work to accommodate reasonable flexibility.

·      Work Environment: This is an in-person, client-facing role. It is not a work-from-home position.

·      Benefits Include:

o   Paid training

o   Mileage reimbursement

o   Flexible scheduling, coordinated with the team
